A few more website improvements
We have made a few more website improvements: the contact pages work (including some AJAX goodness for groups larger than 1), and you can access the code repository for the website if you have a Freedom League account at http://code.freedomleague.org.za. Happy Hacking.
Final LPI Exams for 2006
Due to a tremendous amount of requests from all you Geeks wanting one last chance at getting your LPI Level 1 & 2 certifications in 2006. We have decided to host three more exam sessions at the reduced price this year. If you need any more info on the LPI Canada site.
Training notes are available, free from:
Leading Edge website and
Level 1 & 2 notes and Level 2 notes..
As you are all well aware, the cost of the exams are going up to $150 next year and we are still offering them at hugely discounted price of R275 for Freedom League members and R300 for non-members! This is a big price difference, so I would suggest coming to write both exams to get your certification. Most of the candidates who have already written level 1, suggest that you write both 101 and 102 on the same day, it's not that bad!
We have 3 cities and 2 days to write these exams:
25 November (Sat) - Durban - Westville UKZN
2 December (Sat) - Gauteng - Venue to be confirmed
2 December (Sat) - Cape Town - Venue to be confirmed
To book your exam seat please go to the LPI SA website, we have limited seats and is on first come, first served basis.
Exams that were written at the October sessions are currently being marked and results will be mailed directly to you from the LPI. Some people have already received their results; please send them to me asap too so that we can also know who has passed.
Good luck!

Competition Winners
Hi Geeks
We have a winner! Atomic007Za (Gavin) from East London is the winner of the install competition with no less than 531 installs logged during the competition period. We are very proud to announce him as the hands down winner of that brand new Laptop and look forward to posting a picture of him with his new hardware on the website as soon as he receives it.
We would like to thank all who participated in this competition as it was extremely well supported. We will be sending a consolation prize of our limited edition League golf shirts to Zakarieya (Zakarieya), Brattex (Bryan), Principal (Mike) and Eitai2001 (Itai) for their outstanding efforts.
The recruitment competition winners that were randomly chosen are Olgies (OLGA) and Plex (Steve), both winning a R1000 online shopping voucher. We want to thank all who of you who recruited new Geeks over the past few months and hope the momentum doesn't stop here.
As many of you have seen we've been hard at work on the new Freedom League website. We've built loads of new features, including the ability to send invites to potential Geeks, which we hope all of you will be testing! We're constantly working on adding new features but welcome your suggestions and feedback in the interim.

New Website
Welcome to the new Geek Freedom League site. We are currently busy with the migration. We hope you will like the revamped site. There is a host of great new features like inviting new Geeks and much more still to come.
Geek Kits
Hi Geeks,
Over the past 7 months we have given away more than 100 kits to Geeks who have reached 10 installs or more. As you can all see, the kit includes an awesome 15” laptop bag with a detachable sport bag too! We include more OpenCDs, Ubuntu disks and the Go_Open TV show on DVD too. The whole kit is valued at around R700 and we have only had great comments and reveiws from those Geeks who have received theirs kits.
If you would like to get your own kit, make sure you log your 10 installs ASAP. If you are not a Geek yet and would like to join us feel free to Sign UP and get a pack of OpenCDs posted to you to help get you going with your installs. Remember – stocks of these great kits are limited, so hurry and get yours soon!

January >> /dev/null
We have already come to the end of the first month of the year and it seems as though we are in for a fun-filled year with many great competitions and events planned. This month we launched a competition giving 1 Geek the opportunity of walking away with an LG 17" TFT monitor. This competition is still wide open as not too many geeks have really taken the opportunity to "make a break for it" and get their friends and colleagues involved in the League and OSS. All it takes is to quickly explain to them what OSS is and where to get it (right here!) Most importantly you need to get them to fill in the referral field with your email address so we can monitor your referral count. Don't forget, registration is here!.
February holds many great opportunities for us all so please get everyone involved so they can be a part of the action we have planned for the rest of the year. - Eric Andrews
